SmartWheel V1.0

is a product to extend the usability of the Microsoft Intellimouse and compatible devices to the majority of applications, both 16 and 32bit, whether or not they were programmed to use the wheel.

"The Intellimouse is a clever device, and you soon get used to scrolling with the wheel rather than moving the mouse pointer to a scrollbar and clicking, or taking your hand off the mouse to use the keyboard navigation keys", said Colin Messitt, senior partner at Oakley Data Services. "However, the Intellimouse is not cheap, and it's rather annoying to discover that it only works in a very limited range of applications that have been specifically programmed for it."

Suitable for Windows 95 or Windows NT4, SmartWheel adds both "Wheel-Scrolling" (rotate the wheel to scroll up and down) and "Pan-Scrolling" (click on the wheel and then move the mouse around to "pan" around the document; up, down, left and right and diagonally) to the majority of applications. "Pan-Scrolling" is also available to users of normal 3-button mice, utilising the middle button in place of the Intellimouse wheel.

"Pan-Scrolling is way cool", continued Colin Messitt, "and such a simple function is an amazing time-saver. As soon as you try it you're hooked, and extending this functionality to three-button-mouse users as well is a bonus, for those who don't want to go to the expense of a wheeled mouse".

SmartBoard V1.0e (16Bit) and V1.27 (32Bit)

is a Windows Clipboard Extender. The normal Windows Clipboard can only retain a single item at a time - as soon as you copy a second item on to the Clipboard you lose the first one. With SmartBoard running that is no longer true, SmartBoard retains multiple "Clip Items", even across a Windows restart, and allows simple pasting back of any of them into any application.

SmartBoard runs as an invisible task in Windows - there is no icon cluttering up your desktop - but a single mouse-click or hot-key press pops SmartBoard up on top of your current application allowing you to select the "Clip Item" you want to paste, and then disappears out of the way again having pasted it into the current application automatically - you don't normally even need to use the application's paste command. Using Smartboard is a complete no-brainer, you just pop it into your Start-up group and forget it until you need it. It appears almost "built-in" to the operating system itself.

SmartBoard supports all clipboard formats, and allows you to configure it in exactly the way that works for you. You can specify what clipboard formats to capture, from what programs, limit captures to items under a specific size and specify preferred formats from particular programs. For example you could specify that you want to capture both Rich Text Format and plain Text from Microsoft Word, and the Lotus compatible XL1 format from Microsoft Excel, but only if it is less than 50K in size.

A system-wide hot-key facility allows you to associate a key combination with a particular item, then whenever you press the key combination the associated item is automatically pasted into the current application. You can move items around between categories using Drag 'n Drop, and append multiple text items together. Items can be edited, printed or copied to file. In the case of Text items a "template" capability allows the user to create "boilerplate" items with variable fields that can either be updated automatically (dates/times etc.) or by the user specifying the required replacement data at paste time.

The 32bit version has a range of additional features, including "paste up" and "paste down" to sequentially paste a group of items (great for forms!); powerful rules processing to allow automatic selection of the category items should go into; better category management including moving and renaming categories, and password protected categories; configurable hot-key; text item reformatting (case changing etc.); and much more!

Smart Address V3.2 (Build 329)

is available in both 16 and 32bit versions and is the latest upgrade to our popular Smart Address package that was a finalist in the 1994 and 1995 Ziff-Davis Shareware Awards, and rightly so. Power with simplicity were the design specifications for this MDI address management package, with all the features you would expect including Envelope and Label printing using a layout designer much like a DTP package, phone dialling, export to mail-merge, and a unique "paste to Word-Processor" feature that allows you to point at an address, hit a single toolbar button and have it pasted straight in to your favorite Word-Processor.

The new release adds a whole raft of new features including multiple addresses per entry, much more sophisticated category and index management, a DTP style layout designer that can produce reports with headers and footers, labels and envelopes with graphics on and even phone-book style listings.

And the calendar and reminder functions have been completely overhauled to give the product probably more power than the average PIM, including a separate diary and a consolidated "calendar view" which combines the date and time derived data from all open address books and diaries.

Download it and give it a try - you won't regret it!

Smart Security V1.11

is a Windows NT service that allows you to restrict access to local peripherals on an NT based system to just those people you want to have access. SmartDoc 95 V2.1

Ever used a Window's product that came without printed manuals (as more and more seem to these days) and thought "hey, I wish I could print that help file out!" - well now you can. SmartDoc can take almost any Windows Help file and either print it completely, or extract all the text ready for re-formatting in your favorite Word-Processor. Either way, armed with a binding strip to slide up the side you can make some very nice manuals for yourself. Or perhaps you could use some of the Help file as a training handout. This version now provides support for Windows 95, and can extract the text from or print most version 4 Help files (the new sort that come with Windows 95) as well.

ODS CD Browser V1.21

The ODS CD Browser is a complete front-end for software CD's including functionality for providing product descriptions, screenshots, publisher information and system requirements. It has a modern interface that looks very much like a Windows 95 "Wizard", and uses HTML for the text elements which provides excellent formatting capabilities. It can provide category and keyword searching, install, uninstall and run-from-CD options and complete help for the end user. The modern interface features fly-by tooltips and a tabbed notebook style presentation.

The whole thing becomes a no-brainer for the end user who is then confident of trying the products on the CD without needing any technical knowledge of installation/uninstallation issues, and keeps him coming back for more.

Consideration has been given to usability from a publisher/magazine perspective and subsections of the CD can be constructed and tested individually perhaps by different departments or sections of a magazine, and the whole thing merged for final cut.

SmartSum V1.6

is a Windows based emulation of the traditional printing calculator / adding machine found in so many business environments all the way from the multi-national to the small office / home office. Anyone with a requirement to add up a sequence of figures, such as Visa slips or daily takings will instantly know how valuable a tally-roll with the ability to check back can be. However the Window's environment has also allowed us to add some very nice features that the traditional printing calculator simply cannot do. For example, you can go back and correct an entry that you keyed in wrongly, insert an additional item that you missed out, or delete an item you accidentally entered twice, none of which are possible with the traditional item. And SmartSum can (optionally) say the digits as you enter them too so there is no need to look up to ensure correct keying. Calculations can be titled, and saved and reloaded later for review, and the sequence continued. It may be that with this ability the requirement to actually print the tally-roll at the time will no longer exist, but of course that is possible if required using any Window's supported font.

Subtotals can be incorporated and removed at will, and there is the ability to "tick-off" each entry when checking work. As with the traditional machine there is the ability to select a particular number of decimal places of accuracy. However, with SmartSum if you change the decimal accuracy the whole sequence of calculations is repeated and rounded at the new precision. A "currency" mode is also available which assumes two decimal places and automatically inserts the decimal point at the correct place. "Tax" buttons makes the calculation of sales taxes simplicity itself. Given a Tax-Exclusive price you can calculate the Tax-Inclusive price, or vice-versa. A macro facility is provided which allows the recording of repetitive calculations, and a number of useful macros such as unit conversions are provided. There is an interface to Excel or any other spreadsheet, and clipboard support to allow copying of the tally roll to another application. The colors used by SmartSum are also configurable. There is a comprehensive Help File, and unlike the calculator applet supplied with Windows 3.1, SmartSum can correctly calculate 2.01-2.0 !

SmartFont V1.1

is a utility that will appeal to anyone who uses fonts in the Windows environment, and that means just about everybody these days. Smartfont provides a permanent on-screen display of all the fonts installed on your system in a scrollable list, with each font shown using its own typeface. You can easily make the window small enough to hide on the caption bar of your favorite DTP or Word-processor program. Double-click on any displayed font and a secondary window opens showing the contents of the clipboard in that font. Open as many secondary windows as you like showing any number of different fonts to decide what to use for that block-buster headline you just dreamed up. Type in any window and they all change to follow suit.

SmartPaper V1.4

is a totally unique application that allows you to put "wallpaper" inside the frame window of almost any MDI application, such as Program Manager, File Manager, and a host of other programs from different vendors. Each application can have it's own "SmartPaper", and the paper can change randomly att application start-up or every few minutes. 256 color bitmaps are supported so you can use a picture of a pretty girl or the family. Once you try this you won't want to go back to "plain-old-Windows" again.

SmartDate V1.0

is a perpetual Calendar program, but with a difference. It replaces the "wallpaper" on your Windows Desktop with a display showing the next 12 months and a central panel in which you can define a bitmap to build your own "customised" calendar. But SmartDate isn't just an inert image on your screen, it actually has all the functionallity you would expect of a calendar program including reminders, automatic program scheduling and more, and the colors, fonts and even the "paper texture" of the calendar are all totally configurable. And the calendar is only ever a single mouse-click away too! Simply click the right mouse button on any part of the calendar you can see and all the open windows on screen disappear giving uninterrupted use of the calendar, let go of the button and all the windows reappear just as you left them. Can't see any of the desktop - doesn't matter, just click on any window's control menu with the right mouse button for exactly the same effect! Note that this does NOT work on Windows95 or NT
